Tamron AFF016N700 SP 85mm F/1.8 Di VC USD Lens (Black)

Wow. I am not inclined to hyperbole. I am not easily blown away by a lens, however this is something special. This may be THE must-own lens for Canon and Nikon portrait shooters. I had been shooting with the Nikon 85/1. 8g. A really excellent lens. May have been my favorite lens. I own some good lenses, however it was my sharpest lens, with beautiful bokeh. It has good sharpness in the 1. 8-2 range, and was tack sharp at 2. 8. It’s lightweight, and comparatively cheap under 500. So this lens is about 250 more than the really-excellent Nikon 85/1. 8g. Is it worth it? YES. I dare say, at 750, it is a bargain. 1st, the downside in comparison to the Nikon 85 — it’s considerably heavier, and as stated, it costs about 250 more. Now the upside in comparison to the Nikon 85:1. Vibration reduction. The Nikon 85 has no stabilization. Consequently, I find I can not use it indoors or lowlight without flash. I have to have good light, and use pretty high shutter speeds, to catch really sharp pictures. With the VR on the Tamron 85, I can now shoot portraits handheld in any lighting situation. Based on how steady your hands are and how good your technique, you may get away with some very slow shutter speeds. 2. Chromatic Aberration/color fringing: At large aperture, in high contrast regions, the Nikon produces some pretty bad purple/green color fringing. I could typically correct it in post processing, however on occasion it was so heavy that I could not correct it. I haven’t noticed color fringing on the Tamron. If there’s any, it’s unnoticeable. 3. Surprisingly, it’s sharper than the Nikon. I never ever complained about the sharpness of the Nikon, excellent at f1. 8-2, and tack sharp at 2. 8.

Tamron Auto Focus 17-50mm F/2.8 SP XR Di II VC (Vibration Compensation) Zoom Lens for Canon EF-S Digital SLR Cameras.

I am a pure Canon lens user for the past 3. 5 years. Now using EOS 40D. This is my 1st 3rd party lens & firstly was quite cynical. After thinking it over, I went ahead to give it a attempt because I can not pay for the Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2. 8 IS USM. After playing with the new Tamron lens for nearly two weeks, here is some of my 2 cent comments:Good News 1st (wow so many do not know where to start):-Great optical performance! All photos taken are really sharp. -correct, think about fast and consistent autofocus. -Zoom ring is not cramped or inflexible, easy to turn (reverse direction of Canon lens). -amazingly at 17mm I hardly can see any barrel distortion!-I can not detect any chromatic aberration & Vignette problem. All photos look clean & correct. But it does not mean they aren’t there. Maybe I have to get my eyes checked. :-)-Nice weight (lighter than my Canon 24-105L) & feel, will be my new walkaround lens. -AF is noisier than Canon USM. It sounds like soft “mechanical turning & twisting”. Some photographers may find this annoying but I am perfectly alright with this. It is not too deafening & surely will not disttract your subject or model. In fact, I am to get used to the sound & feel good knowing my lens works properly (see below too). -Manual concentrating is easy to use. -AF is fast & correct, so you may be able to hardly hear the AF sound except under extreme low light situation (the AF is a bit tad slow & the sound is more evident). -Bokeh. I love it!-The Vibration Control VC feature is great & I can go down really low & pic still sharp. -Sharpness of this Tamron lens is at par with my Canon 24-105L. On color comparison, I find Tamron produces a more saturate & lighter.

Tamron AF 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di II LD Aspherical (IF) Macro Zoom Lens with Built In Motor for Nikon Digital SLR (Model A14NII) – International Vers

Good focal coverage, however the pictures are a bit soft. That is after a day of shooting about 60 photos in different places. I have to attempt some more shots, and yes I do keep my equipment clean. I thought this could be a good walkabout lens as its from 18-200,but if it is not sharper it is no use to me. The fitted concentrate motor is great on bright days but hunts when the light is failing.

Good image quality out of this lens when paired with 7D Mark II. The reach is great! The only other telephoto lens I can compare this to is the Tamron 70-300 SP Di VC. Large open, this lens is certainly sharper then the Tamron 70-300 SP Di VC. At F8 it is close. The quality of light plays a big role in to get sharp shots. I also expect to be able to get somewhat better sharpness with a monopod. I have not still tweaked the concentrate settings with the Tamron TAP-in Console, however that could help more. I have attached some pictures, all handheld, with some LR processing.

Tamron Auto Focus 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 SP Di II LD Aspherical (IF) Lens with Built-in Auto Focus Motor for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras (Model B001NII)

I’d imagine that lots of people are shying away from this lens caused by some of the reviews. Rockwell’s super-large comparison is where I 1st heard about this lens, and it didn’t do too favorably there. I was looking for an super-large lens for Nikon DX format, with easy to correct distortion. I was first looking for the Tokina 11-16, which went up in price considerably some number of times, and NEVER looks to be available. I was thinking about the sigma, however the inability to correct the distortion easily large open did not make me too happy, and I could not find one locally to test. The nikon 10-24 is not available still, and the 12-24 is too costly and not large enough. So, I have decided to check this lens out at a local photo shop, and I am happy I did. After some test shots, I ended up buying it. It was sharp enough for my needs – A bit soft large open, however I never shoot large angle lenses large open. F/8 looks near perfect to me on all edges and corners, with some slight color fringing that I REALLY had to look to see. The edges are sometimes soft, however I have only noticed this when I’m pixel peeping. It looks amazingly well built. Metal mount is generally nice, and the concentrate and zoom both have good feels to them. It just feels RIGHT in my hands. I have not drop tested it, and I do not plan to. I could see the AF system going out on a bad drop, however that is just pure speculation. Another plus – there’s MORE than enough room to put whatever UV filter you could like on it with no vignetting. I do not know about filter stacking, however again, I never stack filters. It does have it is quirks. AF stopped on me once when I was switching back and forth from AF to MF.

Tamron SP AF 17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di II LD Aspherical (IF) Lens with hood for Canon DSLR Cameras

When I bought my A100, I was not too impressed with the Sony lenses that were offered, and I was not about to use up the cash on a Carl Zeiss. I had heard great things about the Tamron line, and the 17-50mm range fit well into what I think about a walk-around lens. The 2. 8 max aperture is excellent, particularly when paired with the camera-housed image stabilization in the Sony Alpha. I have shot hand-held in some really low light situations, with great results. I can not recommend this lens enough. If you choose to buy an Alpha, go body-only and get this lens, you will not be sorry.

Tamron 18-200mm Di III VC for Sony Mirrorless Interchangeable-Lens Camera Series Auto FocusB011S-700 (Silver)

I owned the Sony E 55-210 and 18-55 (kit) lenses. Both were rather good lenses for their respective classes. The 55-210 was certainly a great deal for its price. But, I hardly ever used either of them. I still wanted a fallback for the cases where my few prime lenses weren’t suited (or I could not predict what sort of focal length I’d need) so I thought I’d go for a super zoom. I have put it through its paces. It looks to have better chromatic aberration control than the Sony 18-55. Not quite as good as the 55-210. Distortion is not obvious at any focal length unless you are trying to see it, shooting grids or bricks or something. I’d say optically, the lens is just a notch below the 55-210. This is really par for the course for a super zoom lens like this. The Nikon Nikkor 18-200 VR II as an example was an okay super zoom but not quite as good optically as the Nikon 55-200 VR, in spite of costing quite lots more. You’re paying for convenience with an 18-200 class lens and you get it here. If you’re confident you do not need the 18-55 range, the 55-210 is a better lens, if only somewhat. More importantly, the lens feels good in use. It is only some centimeters longer than the 18-55 and is really easier to manage. It is heavier than any other NEX lens except the 18-200 from Sony. It is not too heavy for use but you will notice it if you are used to the kit lens or alike. The only complaint I have with handling is that the concentrate ring is a bit easy to turn and if you shoot in MF or DMF mode, you may find yourself accidentally changing concentrate. That said, it is easy to get used to handling it in such a way that avoids this. The zoom lock is for storage/travel and is needed.

Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD Macro 1:2 Zoom Lens with 3 UV/CPL/ND8 Filters + Tripod + Accessory Kit for Sony Alpha DSLR SLT-A37, A57, A58, A65, A77,

I knew that this lens could be better than the stock Sony lens, however I feared the accessories with it could be sub-par. Not! The whole package was awesome. The tripod is tough; not great, however tough.

Tamron Auto Focus 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 Di LD Macro Zoom Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras (Model A17E)

The new Di lenses from Tamron are intended to work well with digital cameras, though those with the Di will work for 35mm also (Di-II only work with smaller, APS-C chip size digital cameras). This is an improvement on the good 70-300 LD (Low Dispersion glass) design. The big enhancements in this lens are in the coatings, to help decrease any color bias, and minimize reflections. Also, lens manufacturers are doing more inside the barrels to decrease reflections. Like the older LD design, the new lens has a close-up mode (not strictly “macro”) position that lets pictures 1/2 lifesize on the negative. That is about twice the size of most 300mm zooms missing this feature. In comparison to the Canon lenses, it will include a lens hood ( from Canon) and a six year USA warranty (vs. 1 year). It is a bit noiser than the Canon lenses in autofocusing. Also, the Canon 75-300 III is a considerably older design, which came out well before the needs of digital cameras were recognized. One slight disadvantage is that the Tamron uses 62mm filters vs. 58mm for the Canon (which is the same size as the well-liked 18-55 kit lens).

Tamron Autofocus 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF) for Nikon DSLR Cameras

I was shocked to see this lens with a low average score. Clearly the initial reviewer either had a bad lens or does not know the best practices of his camera. Well, it is his loss, because this lens is one of the best I have used and my all-time favorite of my current kit. I have decided to give this lens a attempt after having good luck with other Tamron lenses and looking into the quality pictures my friend got with the same lens on a Canon camera. It was on my short-list for awhile, and I was thrilled when I had a chance to purchase it. Pros: size and weight – this lens is great if you want to travel and do not want to sacrifice quality. It’s light, as are most Tamron lenses I have tried, however well built and easy to work with. Color and sharpness – no problems with sharpness here, and color is superb. I find this lens gives better quality than the Tamron 18-200 that I started out with, and far above the Nikon 18-70. Bokeh (out-of-concentrate background generating) – beautiful, which may be said for each Tamron lens I have used so far. They handle the bokeh perfectly and produce some of the best results when shooting shallow depth of field. Price – this lens falls at a nice price in comparison to alike Nikon models, and it covers more range than some of the 2. 8 Nikon lenses. Zoom lock – I love this feature on the Tamron lenses. I generally lock it when I am not shooting or before it goes back in the bag. I hated pulling the Nikon 18-70 out and having it completely extend every time because the sides of the bag just barely held onto the lens hood. Will work with non APS-C size cameras. Nikon does not have a full-frame digital available still, however who knows what will happen at some point.
